Alums win Startup of the Year by Entrepreneur ME

Meddy.co, a startup created by CMU-Q alumni Haris Aghadi and Abdulla AlKhenji, was awarded Startup of the Year by Entrepreneur Middle East magazine. Entrepreneur ME hosts the annual Qatar Enterprise Agility Awards, which recognizes the wide range of entrepreneurship in Qatar, from industry veterans to new enterprises.

The idea for Meddy.co began while Aghadi and AlKhenji were still students at CMU-Q. Both in the Information Systems program, they initially created Meddy.co as a class project. With encouragement from their professors, they continued to develop the project and officially launched in September 2014 with a list of 200 doctors.

Today, Meddy.co is Qatar’s largest online healthcare platform. The website, which allows users to find doctors and read reviews by patients, has expanded to include an Arabic site and a healthcare blog. The site now includes information on more than 2,000 doctors and 250 private clinics in Qatar.

Meddy.co has had a wave of successes in the past months, winning SeedStars GCC, receiving the Tech Startup of the Year award at the Qatar IT Business Awards, and placing first at the Startup Demo Competition at Arabnet Kuwait.
