Alumni advise students on careers in the region

The annual reception for Carnegie Mellon alumni in Dubai had a twist this year: students in their third and fourth years at CMU-Q travelled to Dubai to meet and network with alumni from the Qatar and Pittsburgh campuses.

In the past, the reception has been an opportunity for alumni who live in Dubai to come together and network. This year, the agenda included a roundtable discussion, which provided an opportunity for students to ask questions about recruitment, the job market, the type of work that new graduates do and the experience of living and working in the region.

“It’s important to build a strong network of Tartans in the Gulf region, and that begins with introducing current students to alumni. These students will soon be graduates themselves, and they in turn can help build the network and serve as mentors,” said John O’Brien, associate dean at CMU-Q, who attended the event along with associate dean of education, Selma Limam Mansar, and other faculty members.

Graduates from CMU-Q work throughout Qatar and the Gulf region in top organizations. With nine graduating classes, the total number of alumni is 570.
