CMU-Q SmartLab depicts real-time financial activity across the globe
At the Euromoney Qatar Conference last week, CMU-Q demonstrated the integration of technology and finance by superimposing real-time financial information on a satellite image of the globe. The result was a heat map of financial activity that revealed how regional activity unfolded in different global markets throughout the trading day.
The CMU-Q team created the display for the Euromoney Qatar Conference using the new securities market analysis research and training lab (Q-SmartLab), created by John O’Brien, associate dean, Fuad Farooqi, assistant teaching professor of finance, and Zeeshan Hanif, research assistant.
Q-SmartLab is an interface that uses visual dashboards to link raw market data. The CMU-Q team developed SmartLab as a tool to organize and analyze information using visual data, business analytics, and computer science techniques.
