CMU-Q Class of 2025: Globally engaged and ready for impact

DOHA, QATAR – As Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) prepares to celebrate its 18th graduating class in May, survey results from the Class of 2025 paint a picture of a remarkably diverse, engaged, and experienced group poised to make their mark, particularly in technology and entrepreneurship.

The survey highlights the global nature of the CMU-Q experience. The Class of 2025 includes 110 students from 31 countries, including the first ever CMU-Q graduate from Turkey. More than a third are Qatari citizens. The students are also linguistically diverse, speaking a total of 36 languages.

Beyond academics, the Class of 2025 demonstrated significant engagement and leadership. A majority of students have held a leadership position within a student club, reflecting a commitment to campus life and peer collaboration.

Experiential learning was a cornerstone of their undergraduate journey. An impressive 71% completed at least one internship, with nearly a third undertaking three or more. While internships in Qatar were the most common pathway, students also gained valuable experience abroad and through remote opportunities.

The graduates also took advantage of global learning and research opportunities. Over a third spent a semester at Carnegie Mellon’s main campus in Pittsburgh, while others participated in global learning trips, funded summer programs, and international academic conferences.

Looking ahead, the Class of 2025 has set its sights firmly on fields driving innovation. Technology emerged as the top field of interest, followed by entrepreneurship. More than 80% will seek out careers in STEM fields.

When the Class of 2025 graduates in May, the total number of CMU-Q alumni will be nearly 1,500. Most of these graduates choose to stay in Qatar to contribute to the National Vision 2030 and the transformation to a knowledge economy.
