Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar helps local organizations apply e-business strategies

DOHA, QATAR – Thirty-six executives from several Qatari organizations recently participated in a two-day course on e-business strategies at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar. The course was designed for professionals interested in developing an e-business strategy in order to achieve superior performance at their organizations. Examples of applications were drawn from various functional areas to illustrate the potential, and difficulties, within e-business.

The workshop is part of a series of executive and professional education courses offered by Carnegie Mellon Qatar to engage professionals who want to improve skills that are critical to good management, and equip organizations and their leadership with the tools needed for success.

Attendees represented several of the organizations that Carnegie Mellon has built strategic partnerships with, including Qatar Ministry of Interior, Qatar Foundation, RasGas, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy Qatar Airways, Ooredoo Qatar, Ezdan Holding and Commercial Bank of Qatar.

The course, held at Carnegie Mellon Qatar’s campus, featured lectures by Tridas Mukhopadhyay, distinguished career professor in business administration and Deloitte consulting professor of e-business.

Ilker Baybars, dean of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, spoke at the close of the event, emphasizing the importance of teaching new methodologies and practical tools to help with real business challenges.

“Offering executive programs to professionals in Qatar is an integral part of our commitment to national capacity building in line with Qatar’s National Development Strategy 2011-2016 and Qatar National Vision 2030. We aim to transfer knowledge to local professionals so they can then implement what they have learned within their own organizations.”

Nadia Al Haroon, a participant from Commercial Bank of Qatar said: “Courses such as these are extremely relevant to the ever-evolving Qatari market. E-business is a direction in which Qatar is gradually moving towards, however there is a lack of knowledge of it within local organizations.”

“When a top ranking university provides the community with knowledge, this is something that must be taken advantage of,” Haroon added.

Carnegie Mellon Qatar also held an Executive Education course in October 2013 focusing on dynamic organizational leadership.
