Carnegie Mellon Qatar signs Sustainability Charter

Dean Michael Trick of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), a Qatar Foundation partner university, signed a Sustainability Charter on Earth Day. The charter formalizes CMU-Q’s commitment to create a campus that models environmental and social responsibility and inspires positive change.

“We have made tremendous strides in building sustainability into everything we do. It is important for Qatar. It is important for Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar,” said Trick.

Trick reflected on the importance of meaningful sustainability practices at a university campus: “Our students are the next generation of leaders in government, research, business and technology. We want them to be actively involved in sustainability on campus, to be creative and innovative in finding solutions, and to carry this awareness with them throughout their careers.”

The CMU-Q Sustainability Charter is an important milestone for the campus as it prepares for accreditation by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) EcoCampus global network. Working closely with the FEE Qatar national sponsor, Earthna, CMU-Q is implementing a structured plan to improve sustainability.

The Sustainability Charter cements CMU-Q’s commitment to incorporating sustainable practices into every aspect of campus life, including academics, research, operations and student life.
