Alums win Seedstars GCC, will compete in worlds

Meddy, an online platform to find health care services in Qatar, was one of two winning projects at Seedstars GCC 2016 in Bahrain. The founders of Meddy, Haris Aghadi andAbdulla AlKhenji, are graduates from the Information Systems program at Carnegie Mellon Qatar.

SeedStars is an international organization that holds startup competitions in emerging markets. For the inaugural event in the GCC, around 85 startups applied, 15 were selected for the finals, and two were selected as regional winners. Meddy will now travel to Switzerland to compete in the global finals.

“It was a really good place to meet amazing startups from the region, along with outstanding mentors, angels and venture capitalists,” said Aghadi. He and AlKhenji are enthusiastic promoters of innovation entrepreneurship in the Middle East, and often return to Carnegie Mellon Qatar to serve as mentors to current students.
