Study Abroad is an opportunity for you to expand your academic horizons beyond Qatar. Study abroad can take the form of either a Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar sponsored program (e.g. the annual trip to Salamanca, Spain) or a program offered by another institution that can transfer credit back to CMUQ.

How do I find the right program?
When choosing a study abroad program, there are several things to keep in mind.

Where can I find classes that will fit my major?
Finding classes that are appropriate for your academic program is very important for semester and academic year programs. You don't want to fall behind in your work. Discuss your interests with your academic advisor BEFORE you apply. Summer programs are often perfect for studying something completely new and staying on track academically.

Where am I interested in living?
Sometimes its worthwhile to simply ask yourself, where have I always wanted to go? There are programs around the world. Don't be afraid to go somewhere exotic, it looks very good on resumes.

Do I speak any foreign languages or am I willing to learn one?
Many study abroad programs contain a local language element. If you are completely uninterested in learning a new language, consider programs in English-speaking countries like the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc.

How long do I want to go?
Programs exist for a full academic year, single semester, summer, or even shorter. The general rule is that the longer you participate, the more you will gain from the program. However, you need to decide how long you want to be abroad.
Some programs share tuition with Carnegie Mellon. Others have completely separate systems that may cost more or less than Carnegie Mellon tuition. For one of these programs, CMUQ will likely waive your tuition while you are abroad. Make sure to find out what your financial aid and scholarships are willing to pay for. Also, summer programs are a great option for studying something totally new, but they are an added expense.
