General education requirements

Students in the IS program study a broad range of general education courses to give them a solid grounding in many of the organisational and social issues which often underpin successful deployments of Information Systems.

Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Programming

As well as humanities, IS majors must also have strong quantitative skills to meet the technical demands of the discipline.

Professional Core

Courses in which students learn the basic skills necessary to analyze, design, implement and test information systems using current and emerging organizational and technological practices. Two of the Professional Core courses are project-based experiences in which small teams of students must develop and communicate solutions to real information problems for clients.

Disciplinary Core

Here students are required to study four areas fundamental to understanding and solving problems in information systems: organizations, decision making, research methods and professional communications.

Focused Content Area

The Focused Content Areas, made up of three courses, are designed to complement the depth provided by the Professional Core and the breadth provided by the Disciplinary Core by providing an opportunity to gain additional skills in a focused area. Students in Qatar are expected to be able to choose one of the following four Content Areas: Business/Economics, Global Systems, Research Methods, and Technology.
