The most successful companies a decade from now will be
selling products and services unimagined today. The Corporate Innovation & Entrepreneurship Certificate Program gives business leaders in the Gulf Region the power to be one of these success stories.
The nine-month, part-time course is offered in Doha as a partnership between Carnegie Mellon University and Qatar Science & Technology Park. Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business is consistently ranked among the top business schools in the world, and Qatar Science & Technology Park is a home for technology-based companies.
The Donald H. Jones Center for Entrepreneurship, housed within Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business, is recognized as one of the best entrepreneur centers
in the world. Thousands of successful businessmen and businesswomen - including
Sunil Wadhwani, founder of the $400 million iGate Corporation - have graduated
from the program.
Carnegie Mellon teamed up with Qatar Science & Technology Park to offer the program
in Doha because QSTP is a hub for international companies and an incubator of start-up technology businesses. QSTP aims to develop Qatar's knowledge economy, and a key
way of doing this is by providing people with the skills and resources to commercialize technology.
In the Corporate Innovation & Entrepreneurship Program, experienced professors and entrepreneurs teach the skills and processes necessary for creating technology ventures via practical, real-world projects. Courses teach business essentials such market positioning, building competitive advantage and strategic planning.
The program also teaches the personal skills that are critical to business success such as leading teams and pitching to investors. By the end of the course, students will have created a fully developed project plan and be ready to launch new technology ventures.
The Curriculum
The Corporate Innovation & Entrepreneurship Program curriculum is made up of four courses: Entrepreneurial Thought & Action, Entrepreneurial Business Planning, Technology Commercialization Strategy and Technology Commercialization Workshop.
Each course is seven weeks long. Week one is a “FAST Week,” which is an intensive hands-on class held all day. This is followed by six weeks of independent study and weekly video conferences with the Tepper School of Business in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. The program is set up this way so that business professionals can attend classes and complete the courses around their work schedule.
Students are required to be physically present at the FAST Weeks. Provisions can be made for videoconferencing and distance learning communication so students need not be physically present at all of the remaining classes.
